EM 385 1-1 Construction Hazard Awareness Course for Contractors
(4 days 40 hours)
Course Description: To enhance the awareness of Site Safety & Health Officers (SSHOs) and other project personnel performing work
on Federal construction, service, and environmental contracts, and to provide all contractor on-site personnel an opportunity to obtain
adequate knowledge to assess unsafe worksite conditions, U.S. Safety utilizes the USACE/NAVFAC Safety Hazard Awareness Course. This course
is similar to the 40-hr USACE/NAVFAC Construction Hazard Awareness Course offered to USACE/NAVFAC personnel, except for subjects not applicable
to contractors.The SSHO, as a minimum, must have completed the 30-hour OSHA Construction safety class or as an equivalent, 30 hours of formal construction safety and health training covering the subjects of the OSHA 30-hour course (see Appendix A, paragraph 4.b) applicable to the work to be performed and given by qualified instructors. If the SSHO has the permitted equivalent training, he is also required to have five (5) years of construction industry safety experience or three (3) years if he possesses a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree.
In addition to the previously mentioned education, experience and training, SSHOs shall have completed a certification course entitled "Construction Safety Hazard Awareness Course for Contractors. If the SSHO does not have a current certification, they must obtain such within 60 calendar days of contract award. (NAVFAC)
OSHA Permit Required Confined Space Entry with Extraction Course
(8 hours)
Course Description: Confined space incidents are not the most common, but they can be the most deadly.
The reason for this is that hazards tend to be misunderstood or underestimated. Many confined space fatalities involve not one,
but two victims, the worker and the rescuer. Upon successful completion, participants will receive an OSHA Permit Required Confined
Space Entry with Extraction Certification Card.OSHA's Permit Required Confined Spaces Regulation was created to help prevent tragic accidents. Through discussion and activities, our professional instructors will break down the regulation into terms that are easily understood. - Key elements of the OSHA Permit Required Confined Spaces Regulation (29 CFR 1910.146)
- Confined spaces concepts and terminology

- Procedures for controlling hazards
- Proper PPE
- Duties of the entry supervisor, entrant, and attendant
- Procedures for self-rescue, non-entry rescue, entry rescue by company employees, and entry rescue by emergency responders

Competent Person Fall Protection Course
(6-8 hours)
Course Description: This course is designed for everyone who works on job sites where fall hazards exist. The objective of this
course is to provide employees who work at elevation with the proper knowledge to establish and maintain a continuous and effective means of fall
protection. Participants will learn the proper use and application of various types of safety equipment to help prepare them function as a competent person.
This program complies with OSHA Regulations (1926.500). Upon successful completion participants will receive a Competent Person Fall Protection Certification Card.Course Content:

Flagger Training Course
(4 hours)
Course Description: Controlling traffic through work areas is one of the most important and dangerous operations
in construction maintenance. This Flagger Training Course is a comprehensive skill-building session that meets federal
industry guidelines, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidelines and the ANSI Standard ISEA-107-1999.
Upon successful completion participants will receive a Flagger Training Certification Card.The primary objectives of the program are to train flaggers to provide safe passage of traffic through and around work areas and to minimize confusion by bringing standard flagging procedures to our nation's highways.
Course Content:
- Thorough understanding of flagging procedures and proper use of required equipment
- Improved flagging skills from hands-on training, classroom activities and a flagging skills test
- Increased ability to coordinate traffic movement through the work zone
Laser Training Course
(1/2 hour)
Course Description: Laser radiation workers are required to receive laser safety training.
We train on class I, II and III-A lasers teaching the fundamentals of laser operations, bio-effects
of laser radiation to the eye and skin and control measures to protect the worker and other employees.
Upon successful completion participants will receive a Laser Training Certification Card.Course Content:

Support Scaffolding Erectors Course
(3-4 hours)
Course Description: This course will help identify the dangers of working with support scaffolds and how these
risks can be minimized by knowing the correct ways to erect, maintain, inspect and use scaffolding equipment. Upon successful
completion participants will receive a Support Scaffold Erector?s Certification Card.Course Content:
- Safe Work Practices

- Erection and Dismantling
- Environmental Impacts
- Electrical and Erosion Hazards
- Fall and Falling Object Protection
- Electrical and Erosion Hazards

Course Description: This course will help participants identify the dangers of working with suspended
scaffolds and how these risks can be minimized by knowing the correct ways to erect, maintain, inspect and use
scaffolding equipment. Upon successful completion participants will receive an Erectors Suspended Scaffold Certification Card.Course Content:

Course Description: This course will help participants identify the dangers of working with suspended scaffolds and how these risks
can be minimized by knowing the correct ways to erect, maintain, inspect and use scaffolding equipment. It is designed for Competent
Person Training. Upon successful completion participants will receive a Competent Person Suspended Scaffolding Certification Card. Course Content:

Competent Person Trenching and Excavation
(8 Hours)
Course Description: Participants are instructed using OSHA's excavation Standard (29 CFR 1926-Subpart P) which
requires workers in trenches and excavations to be protected. Cave-ins are perhaps the most feared trenching hazard;
but other potentially fatal hazards exist, including asphyxiation, toxic fumes, drowning, electrocution and explosions.
Protection from the many hazards associated with trenching and excavation is achieved through knowledge of the
environment, technical mastery of support systems, hazard awareness and proper application. Each participant will
receive a manual. Upon successful completion participants will receive a Competent Person Trenching and Excavating Certification Card.Course Content:
